Green Environment Today Not Tomorrow

According to the “The Philippines Green Environment”, the Philippines is one of the world’s 18 mega diversity countries, which together account for between 60 & 70 percent global biodiversity hotspot, because of rapid deforestation, conversion, fragmentation of natural habitatns, unregulated trade, and over all low environmental quality.

Due to deforestation, illegal mining, dumping of waste in not proper place, pollution, dynamite fishing and other illegal activities, our mother nature is now getting angry to us and we are suffering. There are lots of calamities which came out and more lives were killed, millions of people were homeless all over the world and sufferings to poverty because of these unexpected, unstoppable, devastated, and destructive calamities. Like what happened last January 12, 2010 where more than 230,000 people killed when a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Haiti. Last September 26, 2009 we were all shocked and can’t explain when “Bagyong Ondoy” struck Marikina and nearby areas that killed people. This year “Bagyong Pedring” leaves provinces to a state of calamity. The worst of it was when tsunami and earthquake hit Japan last march 10, 2011 where thousand of people died and millions of properties were vanished and now they are still on recovery process. We think everything is hopeless and we blame GOD after these catastrophes without realizing that we are responsible for all of these.

Before the world will fade let us make a step to stop and prevent these calamities we encounter. Because of the global warming and climate change we experience today, we need to be responsible and be good citizens of our own country. I want to encourage everybody especially the students, professors, and the society as a whole to be a part of a green environtment, let’s start to plant trees, conserve natural resources, and protect our mother nature! Be green! Be pro-environment!
